Required Answer :

Each side of the square = 10.95 cm

Given :

  • Perimeter of rectangle = Perimeter of square
  • Length of the rectangle = 12.4 cm
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 9.5 cm

To find :

  • Each side of the square

Explanation :

Here, in this question we are given the dimensions of the rectangle and it's also mentioned that the perimeter of square and rectangle are equal and we need to calculate the side of the square. For that firstly, we will calculate the perimeter of the rectangle. The resultant perimeter of rectangle will be the perimeter of square too. So, by using the formula of perimeter of square we will get the value of each side of the square.

Formula to find the perimeter of rectangle :

  • Periemter = 2(l + b)

where,

  • l = length
  • b = breadth

Formula to find the periemter of square :

  • Periemter = 4 × a

where,

  • a = side of the square

Solution :

Calculating the perimeter of rectangle :

⇒ Perimeter of rectangle = 2(12.4 + 9.5)

⇒ Perimeter of rectangle = 2(21.9)

Perimeter of rectangle = 43.8 cm

As mentioned in the question,

  • Perimeter of rectangle = Perimeter of square

So, perimeter of square = 43.8 cm

Calculating the side of the square :

⇒ 43.8 = 4 × a

⇒ Taking square root on both the sides :

⇒ 43.8/4 = a

⇒ 10.95 = a

Therefore, the side of the square = 10.95 cm
