Answer:

let the equal sides be 2x cm each . Then the unequal side will be x cm in length.

2x + 2x + x = 40 cm

5x = 40 cm

x = 8 cm

length of unequal side = 8 cm

We have,

Perimeter of the Isosceles △ = 40 units

Let, unequal side be = (x) units

∴ Unequal sides = (2x) units

Now we know, perimeter of △ = Sum of all sides

According to the question,

(x) + (2x) + (2x) = 40

⇒ 5x = 40

⇒ x = 8 units (Answer)
