Hi,

Assuming that the shape is a regular octagon (having equal sides)

the perimeter is 40 cm, (the sum of all of its sides)

so, 8*x=40

x=5 cm  where x is the length of each side.

Hope it helps!

Given:

The perimeter of an octagon is 40 cm.

To Find:

The length of its side.

Solution:

To find the length of its side we will follow the following steps:

As we know,

Perimeter is the sum of all the sides of a geometry.

As in a circle, circumference is the perimeter which is equal to 2πr.

Similarly,

The octagon is 8 sides figure so the perimeter of the octagon is equal to 8a. where a is the side of the octagon.

And, the area of the octagon = 2a²(1+√2).

Now,

Perimeter = 8a

40 cm = 8a

a = 5 cm

Henceforth, the length of its side is 5cm.
