Let the width be x.

then, the length will be 3x.

Now,

Perimeter \:  \:  of \:  \:  rectangle = > 2(x + 3x) = 72 \\ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   =  >  \:  \:   \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: \:  \:  \:  4x = 36 \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: \: =  > \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  x =  \frac{36}{4}  = 9 \: cm

Therefore,

The  \:  \: length \:  \:  is \:  \:  27 \:  cm   \: \:  \&amp; \:  \:  width \:  \:  is \:  9  \: cm.</p><p>

Hence,

Area  \:  \: of  \:  \: rectangle = &gt;  l \times b \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  &gt; (27 \times 9) \:  {cm}^{2} \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  &gt; 243 \:  {cm}^{2}
