Given : Perimeter of the rectangle garden = 86 feet.

The length of the garden is 7 feet more than its width.

To find: Dimensions of the garden.

Solution:

Let the width of the garden be b.

The length of the garden , l = b + 7

We know that perimeter of rectangle, P = 2(l + b)

86 = 2(b + 7 + b)

86 = 2(2b + 7)

86 = 4b + 14

86 - 14 = 4b

72 = 4b

b = 72/4

b = 18  feet

Width of the garden = 18 feet

Length of the garden , l = b + 7

l = 18 + 7

l = 18 + 7

l = 25 feet

Hence , the length of the garden is 25 feet and the width of the garden is 18 feet.

Perimeter = 2 * (L+W)

86 feet / 4 sides = 21.5 feet per side. L of garden is 7ft more than the width.

7ft / 2 sides = 3.5ft per 2 sides. W = 21.5ft - 3.5ft = 18ft.

L = 21.5ft + 3.5ft = 25ft. Difference is 25ft - 18ft = 7ft.

Check: P = 2 * (25ft + 18ft) = 2 * 43ft = 86ft.

Answer. The dimensions are, 25 ft length and 18ft width.
