Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + breadth)

We have given that, perimeter of a rectangular field is 36 and the ratio of length and breadth are 5 : 4.

Let the -

  • length of rectangular field = 5x
  • breadth of rectangular field = 4x

Now,

Substitute the known values in above formula to find the value of length of breadth.

=> 36 = 2(5x + 4x)

=> 36 = 2(9x)

=> 36 = 18x

=> 18x = 36

=> x = 36/18

=> x = 2

•°• Length of rectangular field = 5x

=> 5(2)

=> 10 units

Breadth of rectangular field = 4x

=> 4(2)

=> 8 units

Verification

From above calculations we have x = 2

Now,

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l + b)

We have ..

  • Perimeter of rectangle = 36
  • Length = 10 units
  • Breadth = 8 units

Substitute these values in above formula

=> 36 = 2(10 + 8)

=> 36 = 2(18)

=> 36 = 36

Answer: Length = 10, breadth = 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length be 5x and breadth be 4x

Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(length +breadth)

Substituting the values for length and breadth, we get

      2(5x+4x) = 36

      2 * 9x = 36

      18x = 36

       x = 36/18

       x = 2

∴    Length = 5x = 5*2 = 10 units( or whichever unit is given)

     Breadth = 4x = 4*2 = 8 units
