The perimeter of this isosceles triangle is 29cm. Calculate the length of the equal sides. Your answer must not contain x or y.

Side 1: x + y + 1
Side 2: 3x - 2y + 14

Step-by-step explanation:

first side = x+y+1

second side = 3x-2y+14

third side = 2x-y+4

perimeter of isosceles triangle = 29cm

so acc. to question,,

first side = second side

x+y+1 = 3x-2y+14

2x-3y+13 = 0

2x-3y = -13 .....(1)

and also,,

x+y+1+3x-2y+14+2x-y+4 = 29

6x-2y+19 = 29

6x-2y = 10

3x-y = 5 .....(2)

multiple eq. 2 by 3

9x-3y = 15 .....(3)

so by solving eq. 1 and 3

2x-3y = -13

9x-3y = 15

- + -

---------------

-7x = -28

x = 4

by putting it in eq. 1

2(4)-3y = -13

8-3y = -13

-3y = -21

y = 7

first side = 4+7+1 = 12cm

second side = 3(4)-2(7)+14 = 12-14+14

= 12cm

third side = 2(4)-7+4 = 8-7+4 = 5cm

so the length of equal sides is 12cm
