Given
Perimeter of triangle = 100 cm.
Sides are given as (5x - 9), (x), (2x + 5)
To find
Length of longest side.
Solution
Here, 3 sides of triangle are :
➝ Side₁ = (5x - 9) cm
➝ Side₂ = x cm
➝ Side₃ = (2x + 5) cm.
We know that,
➥ Perimeter of ∆ = Sum of 3 sides
Putting values :
⟼ 100 = (5x - 9) + x + (2x + 5)
⟼ 100 = 5x - 9 + x + 2x + 5
⟼ 100 = 8x - 4
⟼ 8x = 100 + 4
⟼ 8x = 104
⟼ x = 104/8
⟼ x = 13
Now finding lengths of sides of ∆
⟶ 1st side = 5x - 9 = 5(13) - 9 = 65 - 9 = 56
⟶ Second side = x = 13 cm.
⟶ 3rd side = 2x + 5 = 2(13) + 5 = 26 + 5 = 31
Here, Side₃ > Side₂ > Side₁
Therefore,
Length of longest side of ∆ is 56 cm.
