Periyar National Park (PNP) is located near Thekkady in Idukki district of Kerala, India. Covering an area of 925 km2, the core area of 305 km2 was declared as the Periyar National Park in 1982. It is famous as an elephant and a tiger reserve. Sandwiched between The Periyar and The Pamba rivers, Periyar National Park is home to rare species of flora and fauna, including tigers, elephants, gaurs, sambars, giant squirrels, Nilgiri tahr, eucalyptus, 171 species of grasses, 140 species of orchids and many more.
