Growth is a fundamental characteristic of all living organisms. It is defined as an irreversible and permanent change in size, volume and weight of an organ or its parts or even of an individual cell. Growth is poly-dimensional as it results not only in increase of length or size, but also surface area and volume too. Growth increases the dry weight of growing parts. The increase in fresh weight of fruits, vegetables and storage organs is used as indicator of growth. However, the actual growth is found out by increase in dry weight.
