Answer:

This is a very good question you have asked, you should have perhaps thought it before doing MSc botany. But if you have have reached here, It depends on your interests!

Are you interested in plants? Then go for research from India or Abroad. Do some fruitful research that will have implications for India. You can think of some problems society facing such as Agriculture, sustainable agriculture, Botanical medicines, this chinese lady won nobel Prize for her work during 1967 on a Chinese Traditional Medicine by taking the help of modern scientific approaches (2015 Nobel to Traditional Chinese Medicine Expert is a Win for Evidence-based Pharmacognosy). You can also help in providing cheaper health care systems to the society at large. 80 per cent of the people from developing world is dependent on traditional medicines for their healthcare needs. 25 per cent of the people from developed countries also dependent on this traditional medicines. You can think in this directions. Top 10 drugs of the world today used are of plants origin, example are artimisinin, taxol, digioxin, digitoxin etc. There is a more interest towards traditional medicines and human health. So you can help achive the goal of providing health care to people especially developing world.

You can go for courses such as Intellectual Property Rights Management etc.

You can also work towards food production systems, the huge wastage of post harvest crops also a major challenge to India. you can work in this area. Provide innovative solutions , how to manage post harvest losses.

You can help end poverty, 980 million people are malnourished at present in the world. India’s 25 to 35 per cent people donot have adequate access to food. Problem is though not because of the shortage of crop production but sometimes because of distribution and unequal distribution of food.

You can think of IFoS India Forest Services, ACF Assistant Conservator of Forests etc. Curator Jobs in Botanical Gardens. You can work as a teacher, content developer for lectures in botany, you can do NET JRF and or ICMR NET, Many other fellowships are available to do PhD. You can do NET for becoming Assistant Professor in colleges . You can do ARS NET to become Scientist. You can work with private companies.

Entrepreneurship in medicinal plants etc. may be a good option, pharmaceutical foods, sea foods, etc.

Whatever you do, take a calculated decision before venturing out!

All the best!
