Echinodermata, echino means spines and dermata means skin.. they are spiny skinned organisms.

Their peculiar features are :-

1. They are exclusively marine and have unsegmented body without head.

2. Echinoderms at larval stage are bilateral symmetrical and adult echinoderms exhibits radial symmetry.

3. Body surface is covered by calcareous spicules.

4. They have water vascular system.. (don't get confused between water canal system and water vascular system.. water canal system is present in body cavity of porifera)

5. Echinoderms.. for example starfish shows regeneration.. i.e, they can regenerate lost body parts.
