hence, pH of resulting solution is 5.

first find concentration of hydronium ions [H+] .

pH = -log[H+]

⇒4.301 = -log[H+]

⇒[H+] ≈ 5 × 10^-5 M

no of moles of H+ ions in solution = molarity × volume of solution

= 5 × 10^-5 × 50

= 2.5 × 10^-3 mol

now volume of solution after adding 200ml of water = 200 + 50 = 250ml

so, concentration of [H+] = 2.5 × 10^-3/250 = 1 × 10^-5 M

now pH = -log(1 × 10^-5)

= 5

hence, pH of resulting solution is 5.
