The salt is Sodium Bicarbonate.

It is formed in the Solvay process by reaction of Ammonia, sodium Chloride and Carbon iv oxide.

It can also be formed by dissolving CO₂ in Sodium hydroxide to form Sodium carbonate then reacting it with excess CO₂ and water to form Sodium hydrogen carbonate.

THE EQUATIONS

CO₂(g) + 2NaOH(aq) ------------> Na₂CO₃(aq) + H₂O (l)

Na₂CO₃(aq) + H₂O(l) + CO₂(g) -----------> 2NaHCO₃(aq)

USES

1.) It is used in baking.

2.) It is used to control pests.
