The pH of the mouth of a person is lower than 5.5. What changes will occur in his mouth? How can these changes be controlled? Write any two measures.

The pH less than 5.5 suggests that acids are formed in the mouth of the person. These react with the calcium phosphate which constitutes the enamel coating to release phosphoric acid. The enamel coating is slowly corroded and tooth decay starts.

The changes can be controlled by : (i) Cleaning the mouth after each metl with water. (ii) Using tooth paste for cleaning teeth since it contains some basic ingredients.
