pH 7.4 is the optimal pH at which all the enzymes and biochemical reactions would occur in blood and also maintain homeostasis. Probably that's why we have buffering systems which maintains the pH of blood at 7.4 to promote an optimal activity. ... If the pH level is above 7.35 you ll suffer from alkalosis.
