Differential weathering is the process through which the hard rocks tends to weather slowly compared to the softer rocks when placed under the climatic conditions due to the properties of the rocks. The reason why the soft rocks weather fast is that it dissolves more easily than the harder ones. The term “Weathering” denotes the process by which the weather progressively worn away the rocks. Example for hard rock is Granite and for softer rock is limestone. Differential weathering occurs when the harder rocks becomes more resistant due to the weathering which makes the softer ones to weather away.
