The phenomenon of decreased resistance of a material to reversal of stress is called fatigue.
Fatigue in materials can be defined as the weakening of material as a result of applying loads for a long duration. A localized structural damage can occur to a material when it is subjected to constant cyclic loading and unloading.
It can also be known as ultimate tensile stress limit. Some sort of microscopic cracks will begin to appear on the material when the loads on the material cross the certain limit which leads to the fatigue in that material.
