The phenomenon which causes deflection of winds due to the rotation of the earth is known as coriolis effect. It deflects the direction of wind and as well as of ocean current. And it is diverse for north and south pole because, to the north pole it deflects towards the right direction where in the south pole it deflects towards the left direction.

When the wind is deflected due to rotation of earth,it is called as,geostrophic wind.Geostrophic winds come about because pressure gradient force and Coriolis force come into balance after the air begins to move.
