Humans, bats, and kangaroos belong to the Phylum Chordata.

All animals belonging to this phylum are known as chordates. They are characterized by the presence of a notochord, a dorsal nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, an endostyle, and a post-anal tail during their life cycle.

Some of these features can be retained, modified or lost in some of the organisms during the course of their life. Chordates are also bilaterally symmetrical, contain a coelom, body segmentation, and a circulatory system.
