We are going to make a formula by substituting the units i.e we are going to convert kg m /s into physical quantity.

So,

kg = mass

m= distance(length)

s=time

So, kg m /s = mass*distance / time

=Mass* velocity =momentum

Therefore , kg m /s is the unit for momentum.

You can apply this method for any complex unit. ( but you should also know physical quantities).
