The pigment which stores oxygen in muscles is Myoglobin.

Its symbol is Mb or MB. It is an iron- and oxygen-binding protein found in the muscle tissue of vertebrates and mammals.

In humans, it is found in the bloodstream after muscle injury only.

High concentrations of myoglobin in muscle cells allow organisms to hold their breath for a longer period of time, thus they are found in abundant in seals and whales.
