They need to feed on insects for fulfillment of Nitrogen requirement which they do not get during photosynthesis.Just for obtaining Nitrogen they feed on insects....

the Pitcher plant and Venus flytrap are green plants that photosynthesize but they need to feed on insects to fulfill their nitrogen requirement and these plants grow in soil that is not so rich in nutrients that's why they need to feed on insects
