Answer: 7.849

Explanation: in the above question :- Given :-

Pka=9.15

Dissociation (log alpha)= 5%

Ph=?

Using formula

Ph= pka + log alpha

Ph = 9.15 + log ( 5/100)

Ph= 9.15 + log ( 5*10-2)

Ph = 9.15 + (0.699-2)

Ph = 9.15 - 1.3010

Ph = 7.849

Given - pKa - 9.15

Dissociation - 5%

Find - pH

Solution - To find the pH, formula to be used is given below -

pH = pKa + log(dissociation concentration/concentration of amino acid)

In this equation, pH represents Hydrogen ion concentration, and pKa represents acid dissociation constant.

Dissociation concentration will be - 5% hence, 0.05

Concentration of amino acid will be -

1-0.05 = 0.95

Keeping the values in equation-

pH = 9.15 + log(0.05/0.95)

pH = 9.15 + log 0.05

pH = 9.15 - 1.3

pH = 7.85

Hence, pH of amino acid at 5% dissociation is 7.85.
