The plant body in higher plants is well differentiated and well developed roots and the organ used for the purpose of absorption what is the equivalent of root in the less at developed lower plant

Root- like structures called rhizoids are present instead of roots for the purpose of absorption in lower plants such as the bryophytes and the pteridophytes.

HLO MATE HERE IS UR ANSWER

. In some members of bryophyta like Riccia and Marchantia the rhizoids are unicellular whereas tje rhizoids of Funaria are multicellular.

. The rhizoids of prothallus of Fern are also unicellular , but in the sporophyte of pteridophytes adventitious root system is present.

. All these structures are meant for the absorption of water and salts in lower plants .
