Chloroplasts in the tomato fruit then mature into pigments that produce chromoplasts. Chromoplasts are of deep red colour and contain lycopene crystals. As the chloroplast mature during the ripening process it is possible to derive lycopene crystals present within the Lumina or inner space of membrane sacs.
