The play the dear departed conveys a social message. It shows how we have forgotten about our relationships and are engrossing our selves with the materialistic things which wont last forever whereas the relations we are forgetting eternal. The story deals with how the father and the daughters are separated because of money issues which is a shame on the daughters. Abel's decision towards the last, makes his daughters stupefied and stunned. He gave the perfect answer to them by giving his property to a stranger i.e. his future wife.
