The mood of the poem changes drastically to elaborate on the seriousness of the situation since  Inchcape Bell is destroyed and can no longer guide Ralph's men.

Explanation:

  • The given stanza is taken from an exceptional poem called Inchcape Rock. It is written by Robert Southey.

  • In this stanza, Ralph's men can hear nothing except the strong tides or waves. However, Rover along with his team is on the ship. They suddenly feel a stride across the ship and realize they have hit Inchcape Rock.

  • Sir Ralph gets confused and cruses himself for it. While the whole ship is filling with water and starts to sink.
