This clash between the impetuosity of the young children and the authority of the orthodox parents has been as old as the civilization of mankind. It is a universal phenomenon that happens in all climes and all times! The poem, 'Lord Ullin's Daughter', beautifully depicts the clash. Lord Ullin was strictly against his daughter's wish to marry the chieftain of Ullva clan as there had been an inveterate vendetta between their clans. In spite of father's opposition, she dared to defy him. She eloped with her lover. The angry father sent his men with decisive instructions to capture the fleeing lovers and slay the chieftain of Ulva clan. In the heat of reaching a safe place, they had to cross the stormy loch during which they drowned and died. Lord Ullin saw the tragic event with his own eyes; and was regretful for his decision of not allowing his daughter marrying his enemy.
