The poet was on a walk tour with his sister dorathy and his intimate friend Coleridge. He saw a solitary high land lass singing and reaping herself. The valley was overflowing with her song. The poet asked his companions to take a look at her. He asks them to pass gently or to take look at her. The poet can neither understand the theme of the song not the dialect of the song. He thought this song was about some battles fought long ago, sorrowful event etc. Then the poet goes up to the mountain. Now the no more heard. The poet keep the song in his heart throughout his life.
