The poem, ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade' by Lord Alfred Tennyson is written to a)celebrate the courage of soldiers.

The poem revolves around the soldiers of the British Light Cavalry Brigade, being ordered to charge against the Russians. The British soldiers were very few, compared to the thousands of Russians. The British soldiers knew that they were heavily outnumbered and that the chances of survival were very low.

Yet, the soldiers obeyed the orders without any questioning. They bravely followed the orders and marched right into the war, and ‘Into the jaws of Death’. Even though the brigade made it ‘Back from the mouth of hell’, they lost many men.

The fact that the soldiers knew what they were to face, and yet unflinchingly did their duty, is what makes them ‘Noble’. The poem thus, is a celebration of the undaunted courage of the soldiers.
