the poet shows double attitude for snake one is conflicting and other is kind n friendly. He experienced conflicting emotions because of his education. Education bounds us to take things in both ways positively and negatively that's the reason of his conflicting emotions.

At one time the poet thinks that the snake is a guest sent by the god to him. That snake was a very beautiful creature. However the manly wisdom and his knowledge and human instincts make him to perform the wanton act of trying to kill the snake by throwing a log of wood at it.
