the poet in the poem Animals laments the loss of certain values on the part of human beings whereas animals seem to have retained them and are self contained. Analyse the cause of degeneration of values in today's hard times ​

The current times are very hard; human beings have been degenerated. The prime cause behind this degeneration is their greed and materialism. They have distanced themselves from spiritual and ethical values. As a result they have become highly dissatisfied and discontented.  

On the other hand the poet is impressed with the way animals don’t sweat, whine, sulk, regret, rue, and don’t waste their time discussing their duties to God. None of them is unhappy. Animals unlike human beings are not hypocrites; they accept the poet as he is and present themselves to the poet as they are.

Further degeneration can only be curbed if they adopt and practice spiritual values.
