The irony in the given statement is when the snake decides to retreat back to the hole, and would have caused no harm to the poet, the poet suddenly reacts in a horrid manner and throws a log at the snake.He ridicules himself by enforcing this action of his as, when he was in the danger of being attacked at by the snake, he was standing quietly there appreciating and comprehending its beauty. This act of his bring the irony of his action , an action which is not considered to be apt.
