STANZA 8 :
‘But still as wilder blew the wind,
And as the night grew created,
Adown the glen rode armed men,
Their trampling sounded nearer.’
The poet has done so because he wants to show the cruel nature of man and the menacing nature. He has shown water as a ghost which has swallowed the lives of the two lovers.
