Given:

Point P(2, 3)

and another point P(1, -2)

To find:

The reflection of point P(2, 3) in the line x = 4 and

The reflection of point P(1, -2) in the line x = -1

Solution:

To find the reflection of a point in a line x = p, we first find the distance of the point from the line and then move towards the other side of the line for the same distance.

In this case, only x coordinate will change. There will be no change in the y coordinate.

Let's solve the questions now.

Given point P (2, 3) and line x = 4

The point lies 2 units on the left side of x = 4, so the reflection will be 2 units on the right side of line x = 4.

So, x coordinate of image = 4 + 2 = 6

So, reflection of point will be P'(6, 3)

Given point P (1, -2) and line x = -1

The point lies 2 units on the right side of x = -1, so the reflection will be 2 units on the left side of line x = -1.

So, x coordinate of image = -1 -2 = -3

So, reflection of point will be P'(-3, -2)
