\textbf{Answer :}

Since, the point P divides the line joining the points A (1, 2) and
B (4, 5) into the ratio \underline{2 : 1}, then the co-ordinates of the P be

( (1×1 + 4×2)/(2+1), (2×1 + 5×2)/(2+1) )

$ i.e., ( (1 + 8)/3, (2 + 10)/3 ) $

$ i.e., ( 9/3, 12/3 ) $

$ i.e., (3, 4) $

By the given condition,

$ (3, b) $ Ξ $ (3, 4) $

Comparing both sides, we get

\textbf{b = 4}
