Given:

The point which lies on the x-axis at a distance of 4 units in the negative direction of the x-axis

To find:

The point on the x-axis

Solution:

We have given the point on the x-axis.

As we know that the equation of the x-axis is y = 0

so, y coordinate of the point should be 0

in the cartesian plane we know that:

The value of the x is positive at the right side of the axis and negative at the left side of the axis.

As the point in the negative direction so the coordinates of the x should be -4.

Thus,

The point on the x-axis is (-4, 0)

SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

The point which lies on x-axis at a distance of 4 units in the negative direction of x-axis is

  • (-4,0)

  • (0,-4)

  • (4,-4)

  • (4,0)

EVALUATION

In Cartesian Coordinate system any point is of the form ( x , y )

Where abscissa = x and ordinate = y

Now any point on x axis is of the form ( x , 0 )

So that ordinate of the point = 0

Here it is given that The point which lies on x-axis at a distance of 4 units

Also it is stated that the point is in the negative direction of x-axis

So the point is ( - 4 , 0 )

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is

 ( - 4 \: , \: 0)
