The police shot dead one alleged robber in an encounter on

Crescent Road early this morning while his accomplice managed to escape.

The duo had allegedly looted two men earlier in the night.The loot,the two men

were allegedly trying to flee with,had been seized,said the police.On this list of

items is cash,a locally-made pistol,ten cartridges,a wrist watch and a two-

wheeled.

Ravindra,a transporter and resident of Balamau was returning from a Diwali

fair,accompanied by a friend when they were accosted.Two armed unidentified

persons stopped their two- wheeler at the Crescent railway crossing.At pistol

point,the men allegedly robbed them of the scooter,six hundred rupees and a

wrist watch.

The police,informed soon after,swung into action.They were able to locate the

two in Tulsi Park,but the men apparently managed to give them the slip. Police

posts were alerted and the scooter number was flashed on the wireless,the Tulsi

Park police station Head said.

Eventually,it seems,the police managed to corner the duo on the Crescent Road

at around 3:30 am.The men allegedly fired at the police in an attempt to

escape.The police team returned the fire,killing one of the alleged robbers on

the spot.

The dead man is yet to be identified.The man,aged around 30,had a gold chain

around his neck and wore an expensive wrist watch.His shirt bore the label

‘Modern Tailors’.
