I do agree because the people who now come under the category of SC, ST are given special quota everywhere. This was initially started to get rid of the notion “untouchables”. In the eyes of law and government, everyone are equal. This is not only in India but also in the U.S. The policy reservation has now been extended to women too.
Government has realized that inorder to compete with the developed nations, the women have to be strengthened so, policy of reservation has been formulated for women with regard to education, employment etc.
23% of India’s population falls in the category of downtrodden and minorities, if they are not uplifted then India can never become a developed nation. This was first started by Gandhiji because he understood the importance of uplifting the “Harijans”.
