The volume of SO₂ per litre of air is 10⁻² ml.

We have to find the volume of SO₂ per litre of air, if the pollution of SO₂ in air is 10 ppm by volume.

Concept : There are so many method to measure the concentration of any solution, ppm is one of them.

It is defined as,

\text{ppm}=\frac{\text{volume of solute}}{\text{volume of solution}}\times10^6

Here, pollution of SO₂ in air is 10 ppm by volume.

⇒ 10 ppm = volume of SO₂/volume of solution × 10⁶

∵ we have to find the volume of SO₂ per litre of air.

∴ volume of solution =  1 Litre = 10³ ml

⇒ 10 ppm = (volume of SO₂)/(10³) × 10⁶

⇒ volume of SO₂ = 1/10² ml = 10⁻² ml

Therefore the volume of SO₂ per litre of air is 10⁻² ml.
