Question:-

The polynomial x² - 2x² + ax + 12 when divided by (x + 1) leaves a remainder 20, then 'a' is equal to:

To Find:-

  • Value of a

Given:-

  • (x²-2x²+ax+12)÷(x+1) leaves a remainder of 20

Solution:-

According to Remainder Theorem

x+1=0

x= -1

and now

p( -1 )= (-1)²-2(-1)²+a(-1)+12=20

1-2-a+12=20

11-a=20

-a=20-11= 9

a= -9

Therefore value of a= -9
