The population of a place increased by 25% in 2012. Next year, it decreased by 15%. Find the total increase or decrease percent in the initial population to the nearest whole number. ​

Answer:

This problem has already been solved correctly, but I would like to add an alternative method.

Whenever the problem is like this increase by 25% and then decrease by 25% or taking a general value for increase and decrease as a% the solution is ALWAYS A DECREASE OF a^2/100

So in this case

Decrease=252100Decrease=252100

= 625100625100

= 6.25% decrease
