If the population of a town increases every year by 2% of a total population at the beginning of that year, In how many years will the total increase of population be 40%?

----

A(t) = Ao*(1.02)^t

----

1.4*Ao = Ao(1.02)^t

---

1.02^t = 1.4

-------

Take the log of both sides:

t*log(1.02) = log(1.4)

t = 17 years
