Given:

The population of a town is 40000. It decreases by 20 per thousand per year

To Find:

Find out the population after 2 years

Solution:

We know that,

Population of the town = 40000

Population Reduction rate = 20/1000 = 2%

Population after 1 year = 40000 - (2% of 40000)

                                      = 40000 - 800 = 39200

Similarly,

Population after 2 years = 39200 - (2% of 39200)

                                      = 39200 - 784 = 38416

Hence, the population of the town after 2 years will be 38416.
