Answer:

The population in a particular year can be given by

Pn = Po(1 + r/100)^n

Where Po= population in 1988

Pn = population in n years after 1988

r = population growth rate

n= no. of years after 1988

in this case

Pn = 4,5x10^7

n = 20

r= 2.4%

So, P2008 = 5.4x10^7(1+2.4/100)^20

                 = 5.4x10^7 x 1.60694

                 = 8.677 x 10^7
