Answer:

⇒ The total population of villages A and B = 105000

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data

The population of the villages A and B in a certain year = 3 : 4

in the next year the population of the B is increased by 20%

and it is equals 72000

Here we need to find population of the two villages in first year

let 3x and 4x be the population of villages A and B

then the next year the population of village B is increased by 20%

⇒  20% of 4x =  \frac{20}{100} (4x)  = \frac{4x}{5}

⇒ After increasing the total population B = 4x + \frac{4x}{5} = \frac{20x+4x}{5}  = \frac{24x}{5}

⇒ from given data \frac{24x}{5} = 72000

                              24x = 360000

                                 x = 15000

⇒ population of villages A and B is

  village A = 3(15000) = 45000

  village B = 4(15000) = 60000

⇒ The total population of villages A and B at first year

                     = 45000+60000 = 105000
