Lothal was the port city of the Harappan or Indus Valley civilization.

Lothal is a very important city in the ancient Indus (Harappan) Valley civilization. The Lothal city is located in the Bhal area of the state of Gujarat. In 1954 its discovery was started. The Archaeologists found this city from February 13, 1955 to May 19, 1956. Lothal is situated near the village ‘Sargavala’ of ‘Dholka taluka’ of Ahmedabad district.

The Lothal dock, which is the oldest known dock in the world, was connected to the city by the ancient stream of Sabarmati river flowing between Harappan cities and Saurashtra Peninsula located in Sindh, which was a trade route between these places.
