x - 3y - 5  = 0  is equation of line if The portion of a line intercepted between the coordinate axes is divided by the point (2,-1) in the ratio 3:2

Step-by-step explanation:

Let say equation of line

y = mx + c

y = 0 then x  = -c/m

x = 0 then y = c

at x axis   point is ( -c/m , 0)

at y axis point is ( 0 , c)

(2 , -1)  divides in ratio of 3 : 2

=>   (3 * 0 + 2(-c/m))/(3 + 2)  = 2     or  ( 3(c) + 2(0))/5 = - 1

=> -c/m = 5                                    =>  3c = -5

=> c = - 5m                                   => c = -5/3

-5m = -5/3

=> m = 1/3

y = x/3  - 5/3

=> 3y = x - 5

=> x - 3y - 5  = 0
