The position of a particle moving along the
Y-axis is given by y= At^3- Bt, where A and B are
constant, y is in metres and t is in seconds.
(a) What are the dimensions of A and B?
(b) Find the expression for velocity and
acceleration as a function of time.

Answer:

this eqn can be written as y=At^3=Bt

y=At^3

A=y/t^3

=L/T^3

=LT^-3is the dimension of A

y=Bt

B=y/t

=L/T

=LT^-1is the dimension for B

(given y=distance,t=time)

velocity=displacement/time

=L/T

=LT^-1

similarly acceleration=velocity /time

LT^-1/T=LT^-2
